Condominium Boulders

Scott and I went down to my camp to get away from civilization and to have a few beers. On Sunday we left the camp and we’re on our way to my parents

Warm Up Boulders

for the Super Bowl.  As we pulled onto the highway, Scott (with his face pinned to the side window looking for boulders) said “There has to be boulders around here.”  I’ve been going to my camp since I was 12 and I have never seen boulders in Sheet Harbour.  Nevertheless, I let Scott have his fun and I drove 15 km/h on a 100km/h highway and not even 1 minute down the road I saw something.  I slammed on the brakes and there it was just off the road, a small roof 12 feet up on a 16 foot boulder. Now, don’t think less of me for not seeing this set of boulders for the last 14 years of driving, but there they where. Scott and I ran in and BAM Lewiston Boulders were born.

Kahuna Boulders

BIG Boulder

It has now been one year and there has been some development and a lot of exploration.  Special thanks to the hard core NS climbers who came out to scrub, chop and saw in the piss pouring rain and everyone else who has been down to help.  As of right now we know of 10 areas with three areas completely developed. Condominium Boulders, has 15 problems V0 – V8 and 4 projects. The Schist Boulder has 4 problems V1 – V4 with 3 projects and the Warm Up Boulders have 12 problems V0 – V6. That’s 31 climbed problems in 3 areas out of 10. Needless to say there is a lot of work ahead of me.  All the boulders that we have found so far are within a 2km sq area. The rock is Schist not Granite making for a great Mini Climbing trip destination when you just want to climb something different. From Ground Zero you are looking at approximately, a 2 hour drive to get to the boulders. There is no hike to get to the Warm Up Boulders and the Condominium Boulders, and most of the trails are cut and marked to all the other boulders. Watch the website for a sneak peek of the Guide Book including a Topo of all the Lewiston Boulders and problem descriptions for two of the developed areas.  For more information feel free to email CNS climbnovascotia@gmail.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
