Ice Fest 2012 Recap

Monday, February 20th, 2012

26 climbers came out to Halls Harbour West on Saturday to enjoy some of the finest hero ice Nova Scotia has to offer. Although only three lines were in after our warm and wet weather of late, they all climbed exceptionally well. A good time was had by all and CNS volunteers made sure that everyone was able to swing some tools and kick some crampons.

Big thanks to Nette, Willsie, and Jamie for rigging the top ropes and doing extensive belay duty – you guys rock!

CNS Ice Fest 2012 – Saturday Feb 18 @ Halls Harbour West

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Climb Nova Scotia will host our annual Ice Fest ice climbing event on Saturday, February 18th – assuming we have ice then of course. If not, the event will be rescheduled for March 3rd. Ice Fest grows every year and several people have already RSVP’d. We can only accommodate a limited number of climbers without their own equipment, so please let us know what gear you will bring for yourself when you RSVP. We can supply some ice tools, crampons, helmets, and harnesses for shared use and we will have top ropes rigged in advance for everyone. You will need to bring your own appropriate clothing, crampon-compatible footwear (this means ski boots if you don’t have mountaineering boots), food, water, hot beverages, and common sense.

We are at the mercy of the highest tides in the world

Due to the tide schedule, Feb 18th will be the date, as opposed to the previous weekend as we had mentioned before. Event starts around 11am and will probably continue until dark – we can’t start any earlier due to tides. Meet us here at the parking lot in Halls Harbour West. All are welcome to attend, the event is free for CNS members, and if you aren’t a member you can buy a membership here and you will have to sign our waiver. Sorry, liability issues do not permit non-members to attend. If you’ve always wanted to try ice climbing, now is your chance. If you already love ice, come share your enthusiasm!

Please RSVP to climbnovascotia@gmail.com

*Note: Ice climbing is dangerous. We will take every opportunity to make things as safe as possible, but it’s still easy to get hurt when ice axes and pointy crampons are swinging around and blocks of ice are falling from the sky as you stand next to an unstable cliff band on the shore of the Bay of Fundy. CNS and the volunteers present cannot accept liability for any injuries and we are not a guiding service.
